Smule’s Ocarina is an app that turns your iPhone into a 12,000 year old ancient musical device. There are no tutorials; just blow into your microphone and start playing.

Ocarina also has a social element. “Tap on the globe icon and you will see and hear other Ocarina players throughout the world.

While I’m not musically inclined, plenty of users are. The forum is full of sheet music from users all over.

This app is brilliant in so many ways. Check out some of Smule’s other innovative apps:Sonic Vox and Sonic Lighter.

Suzuki Yamaha Sakura

The Suzuki Yamaha Sakura is a recent excellent example of remo (retro+modern = remo; seriously, I just made this up; hot right?).

Combining the look of the early 1970’s XS-1 with modern Japanese design and style, the Sakura (full name: XS-V1 Sakura) is a concept design intended to display “models as works of art that are the realizations of Yamaha’s corporate principle: to be a company that creates Kando*”.

Unfortunately, all signs point to this never hitting production. However, given that even remo is all the rage these days - with a few seeing production soon - one can only pray Suzuki Yamaha wakes up and smells the shag and blesses us with this gorgeous beauty.

iPhone Home

Poor E.T. He made a crude phone out of child’s toys and yet still he will only be remembered as the little brown dude that healed dead plants and ate M&M’s Reeses Pieces. Turns out E.T. wasn’t so “extra” at all.

Steve Jobs and the engineers at Apple have totally rocked the cellphone world and will be remembered throughout time as such. I’m here to tell you that the iPhone does live up to the hype.

I stopped by the AT&T store on 125/Lexington; no lines or crazy screaming fans. I was greeted by two security officers who looked like they were quite upset about missing bingo at the local geriatric holding facility. Amused, I made my way around the store. I felt like Steve Irwin on the hunt for the rarest, most exotic of prey. Then I spotted her, in the hands of a reluctant, Napolean complex manager. After a brief exchange he agreed to gift me with her for a short while. I melted…

Let me tell you right now friends, the iPhone is - how can I say this delicately - fucking awesome.

Every review you have read is right about everything - even the gripes. I won’t go into detail, but Lev Grossman from Time so eloquently conveys my feelings about the iPhone. Sure, you may not think it’s worth getting, but think of it this way, it is the first run of one of the greatest gadgets to hit the market; period. Yes, better and cheaper versions will come but this one will be forever remembered as the one that blew the doors open. You need this phone.

Heck, I need this phone! Must…find…freelance…gig!

 = the great white hype

iphone.jpg Appe is the best hype machine that has ever been created. They make FOX - with all it’s spinning - look like childs play. Why do I say this? Because as cold hearted as I want to be towards the iPhone…I want one…bad!

All the reviews point towards one thing: the iPhone is dope. There are some people (including myself) who will argue that other phones exist that do exactly what the iPhone does and way more. For instance, the Helio Ocean. Super fast internet access, myspace blogging, video recording, takes gorgeous pics, true qwerty keypad, separate numeric keypad, instand messaging, MP3 player…the list goes on and on. The Ocean is a fantastic device…but it doesn’t move me; it doesn’t have that beauty and charm. Hands down, it is a great phone and walks circles around the iPhone with its feature list, but a beautiful package it is not. To some it works and I may actually buy it, but the iPhone truly moves me.

Stay tuned, I might be homeless in the next few days, so let’s hope this iPhone can double as a cooling device!
